During the journey west to Steilacoom we had the chance to stop off in Fairfield, ID to spend a few days with Carolyn's parents, Mike and Nancy Dettori. We got in late morning around 11am and just relaxed for a bit. For those of you who don't know about Fairfield, it's a tiny little blip of a town maybe 300 total people. We headed into town for the big picnic and fireworks show. Food was GREAT (good ole home cooking farmers wives)!! That's where the comedy of the evening begins:
First this wonderful little old lady was collecting money and handing out plates/silverware/napkins. She happened to tip over the plastic silverware onto the ground, which was quickly commented on by her loving husband, "Way to go Granny!" Later as the sun began to set I was lucky enough to get to meet and sit next to the Mayor, Dave. He is a very energetic, and small, (yes I know I'm vertically challenged myself, but I think I won this one) man. Also, he has a very unique and fun way of speaking to young ones. His voice goes so far up that you start to picture this little cartoon character with a tiny little head. Again, wonderful man and a joy to watch some explosions with. Next came, the presentation of the colors. This involved 4 old service men, one service lady, a boy scout, and what can only be described as a drunk old man on a bike. The boy scout had some trouble that day including keeping the flag off the ground, marching in time, marching the right direction, and listening to the orders. The old man on the bike nearly ran over Carolyn and Nancy and yelled "don't drink and drive" as he rode away. He also had a bit of trouble with his turning left (he had to turn to his other left, like the rest after a moment of confusion. Then during the national anthem, I learned something I never knew before thanks to a young lady (8-9 years old) standing next to me. During "and the rockets red glare" she abruptly turns to her friend, rips off her sunglasses, places them on her shoulder and says, "You're not supposed to have those on during this! You're not supposed to wear anything! Except for your clothes and shoes! Geez!"
Now the dark is approaching, we revert back to our heckling Grandpa (yes the husband of the above). The firemen came around collecting money in the a boot for next years fireworks. So everyone is happy to donate and give a little bit. They then come to Gramps. Fireman 1 says, "We're trying to fill the boot up for next years show" Gramps replys, "Fillin' it up with what?" as he's reaching for a choice beverage. Later Grandpa (yes again) is enjoying the show and seeing his grandkids running around. One of the little ones (guessing age 2-3) trips and falls. Heckling Gramps once again has a great one liner, "Oops, careful that gravity is kinda heavy right there"
Oh, My!!!!! All in all it was a fantastic little stop on our trip west. I just needed to share our wonderful 4th of July, 2007.

On my way west!
So, I'm going to be really impressed if anyone finds this before I get out to WA. Anyway, quick updates on me.
First things first, I'm Ty Stewart, I'm going to be the new youth director/worship leader at Oberlin Church. Life is CRAZY busy getting ready to go. I celebreated 6 wonderful years married to my wife yesterday (June 23rd). I just had reconstructive surgery on my ACL, PCL, and Meniscus in my right knee (yeah that means no walking for 6 weeks......grrrrrrrrrrr!). We have a little 2 year old, Jaxon, who is awesome, but a little crazy nuts too. Case and point. He brings is CD player out of his room, into our room, plugs it in (himself, SCARY), puts in his la bamba cd, and starts jumping on our bed singing at the top of his lungs.... yeah, go ahead, try to keep up with that! We're also expecting our second little munchkin sometime in December. Oh yeah, AND we're packing up our entire house getting ready to move. Well, that's it for now. Drop me a note if you happen upon this wee little blog. I'm SO excited to get out there soon. It's like 2 weeks away! Blessings to you!
